Gear of the Near Future to 2011

Our friends at GearJunkie.com went to the Outdoor Retailer Summer and found some really cool stuff coming some time between fall this year and 2011. Here are the ones I liked best:

SteriPen Sidewinder:

Steripen
Just fill reasonably clean water into the unit's one liter bottle, attach to the sidewinder and crank like mad. After a few minutes or so you get cleaner water that's free from protozoa and other harmful stuff you can't even spell, much less see. This should be available in September.

The North Face Dry Tent

Drytent
With the new fabric called DryWall, The North Face can now make tents that have all the good characteristics of both single-wall tents and double-wall tents. Pretty big claim. We'll see about that. Available in the coming spring.

Wenger EvoWood

Swisswoodknife

I'm a sucker for multi-tools and camping knives, especially ones that look as good as the wooden swiss army from Wenger's new EvoWood range. Although still very functional, it's more of a fun item than a hardcore camping knife. I still want it.

Brooks-Range

Brooksrange
Another great multi-tool but this one is geared more towards skiers and snow boarders than campers. It has a serrated knife, six screwdriver bits, a wrench, bottle opener and pliers.

Gerber's Bear Grylls Survival Series Ultimate Knife

Beargryllsknife

Bear Grylls of "Man vs Wild" designed this one so you know it's at least good for something. This is the kind of knife I want in my collection like right now! Available November 1, 2010. Pre-order Gerber's Bear Grylls Survival Series Ultimate Knife now.

There you go. Out of the 12 new gear, I chose 4 as my favorites. Not bad.

If you want to see the others, go to the GearJunkie.
